How can you protect your computer from infecting viruses through Pen Drive/Flash memory etc?

Normally Pen drives are not secure devices. Pen drive is an easy way to carry virus files. When we connect a USB drive to the computer, running on windows operating system, it may have certain risks to infect viruses. We should be careful while opening the drive. The infected pen drive has a file named ‘autorun.inf’. When we double click on the drive icon appeared on my computer, actually the autorun file runs instead of ‘open’ command. It activates an EXE (executable) file which is a virus or its support file. Quickly, virus file spreads to the system folders, and infecting the computer.

This is the major way to infect virus on computers. So, this risk can easily be overcome. Do these steps while connecting a USB drive:

1.      Connect the USB drive.
2.      Press shift key while it reading the content. (It helps to disable autorun function.)
3.      After detecting the drive open my computer manually.
4.      Choose the drive from the address bar, or type the drive letter on the address bar along with a column ( : ),( E.g.: J: )

Then the drive will open.

If you enable the ‘show hidden files’, from toolsà folder optionsàview, you can see the virus files. Delete the suspicious files.
